Rattle, no way. The backing clip is a pretty stiff spring and it pulls the fasteners and the fairings together as hard as the OEM fasteners. The front fastener on the top fairing is very tight. There is a plastic washer that can be used under the head of each fastener so no scratch from that. The D rings fold over and I believe they contact the paint in one spot. That may prove to be a problem for the paint. Have not noticed yet. I imagine the D ring could be cut with a wire cutter and pulled out? Never tried. then you could just use a screwdriver to remove/install the 1/4 turn fasteners....of course they make Dzus fasteners that are Straight slot only or hex key only w/o a D ring. The D rings have some kind of internal spring so they stay folded. They will not rattle back and forth.
When I first put the fasteners in the top/middle fairings, I noticed the gap between those two parts. You may see that in the pics I posted. IDK --I think that is present even with the oEM fasteners. Doesn't show too much on a black bike. One thing, that gap does show the backing clip through it. Not too noticeable but I do recommend a paint touch up to camouflag the clip. A blue perm marker might work fine for a blue bike, black marker is fine for a black bike.
Installing the backing clips to the inside of the fairings will cause scraping of the paint but only on the inner tabs. No problem. Could just repaint that with touch up paint if necessary.

No, Coots. No problem with paint so far. I've put close to 500 miles on the bike. each ring touches the fairing in one tiny spot but all I see is that a water/dust spot accumulated there from my ride in the rain. Wiped right off. I
will keep my eye on it though.
